A deputy who was injured following a shooting incident in Bulverde Thursday night is expected to make a full recovery, according to the Comal County Sheriff's Office.
The incident occurred just after 10:30 p.m. when Bulverde police and Comal County deputies responded to the Bulverde Hills Subdivision for a suicidal subject with a gun.
Upon arrival, authorities found a man in the street holding a handgun and they attempted to talk to him subdue him as he continued to advance towards them.
Authorities said after ‘less than lethal tactics’ were deployed without success, the man raised the gun and fired several shots striking one of the deputies.
Authorities returned fire, striking the suspect several times.
Both the deputy and the suspect were airlifted to University Hospital in unknown condition. The deputy was wearing a protective vest at the time of the shooting and is expected to make a full recovery. The condition of the suspect remains unknown.
The deputy has been with the Comal County Sheriff’s Office since January of 2014. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force and came to Comal County from another law enforcement agency, the Comal County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
Comal County deputies, Bulverde police and the Texas Rangers continue to investigate the incident.
