Comal County conducting active threat exercise at local high school

COMAL COUNTY – The city of New Braunfels wants you to know there is nothing to worry about.

If you see emergency vehicles and first responders surrounding Canyon High School don’t be alarmed, they’re supposed to be there.

The Comal County Active Threat Response Committee is conducting an active shooter exercise from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday.

In a Facebook post, the city said the committee is made up of members of the New Braunfels Fire Department, New Braunfels Police Department, Comal County Sheriff’s Office, New Braunfels ISD, Comal ISD, all of the Comal County Fire and EMS Departments, Garden Ridge Police Department, Bulverde Police Department and Schertz EMS.

Canyon High School will be secured and the public will not be allowed on property during the exercise. This was also scheduled during the school district’s spring break.

The responders and vehicles onsite will have their emergency lights on in an effort to make the exercise as lifelike as possible, according to the post.
