SAN ANTONIO -- An argument between a father and son that may have started over barbecue and quickly escalated to a fatal shooting is devastating friends and family just days before Father's Day.
Police responded to the 3000 block of East Commerce Thursday night following reports of a shooting. When police arrived they found Daniel Goodwin dead in his bedroom with a hand gun on a nearby dresser.
Witnesses say 20-year-old Darius Goodwin, the victim's son, was seen fleeing the apartment where the disturbance took place.
Authorities listed Darius as a suspect and subsequently issued a murder warrant for his arrest. Hours following the shooting, police located the vehicle he fled in and arrested Darius without incident.
Jose Garcia sat on the front porch with Daniel almost everyday and he said he's floored that his friend is gone, especially under these circumstances.
"They're not the type of people to be like that - to start trouble," Garcia said. "They're real good people."
Garcia said Daniel was a basketball fan with plans of barbecuing before watching Thursday night's game 2 of the NBA Finals. It's possible, the argument may have been over Darius being asked to help prepare the barbecue.
It's not going to be the same around here, Garcia says, there won't be anymore opportunities to sit on the porch with Daniel.
"Sad to lose a friend, somebody that you get close to that you hang around with."
Darius Goodwin remains in Bexar County jail on $200,000 bond.
