SAN ANTONIO - San Antonians and their four-legged friends got together for a fun-filled day to raise money for cancer research.

Phil Kandera organized the event at McAllister Park. There was a dog trick contest, best-dressed contest, and gift card giveaways. He is running for 'Man of the Year' as part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's campaign where participants try to raise the most funds during 10 weeks. Kandera said he's supporting the organization because of his friend Amanda who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2016.

"Because of the research dollars that went toward helping her out, a year later she was cured. I'm out here to support what's going on with that cause," Kandera said.
