6th Annual Boxer Boogie puts dogs in costumes

6th Annual Boxer Boogie costume contest

Halloween is just one day away and it isn't just for the kids, but pets too. Everyone was a-buzz about the 6th Annual Boxer Boogie in Pickrell Park on Sunday morning in Schertz.

"It is our biggest fundraiser all year to benefit Alamo Boxer Rescue, which is a chapter of Austin boxer rescue," said Diana Voria of Austin Boxer Rescue and Alamo Boxer Rescue.

Over 400 dogs were expected to participate in the fun run, with no costume required. But many of the pampered pooches, and even some of their owners, went all out, including El Rey Fido, the official king of Fiesta, who was here as a special judge.

"This El Ray Fido always gets special food, but this year is more special. But always gets a special food, yes, he always gets special treatment," said Ted and Tina, owners of El Rey Fido, normally known as Scout.

Who stole the show? Perhaps two burglars and their cop dog! Of course Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton made an appearance, and even won the prize of "scariest costume!" Wonder Woman was in attendance just in case any of these rescues needed some serious rescuing.

"It's very heartwarming that so many people come out with their parents and with their dogs and really have a good time for a good cause," Voria said. "This takes a lot of money because of all the medications and surgeries so forth and so on that goes into maintaining this mission."
