Police: Alleged 'porch pirate' arrested for stealing packages

SAN ANTONIO - An alleged “porch pirate” is accused of stealing thousands of dollars in packages and other items.

Police say David Ramirez, 27, has been raiding porches for the past month. They also believe he has been breaking into vehicles.

Investigators say at least 15 packages have been recovered. Police believe he stole $3,000-$4,000 worth of items from victims across the city.

Victims were able to give officers information on a Jeep suspected in the crimes that ultimately led to the arrest of Ramirez. During his arrest, Ramirez expressed remorse.

“I apologize, I apologize for everything. I’m sorry,” Ramirez said.

He faces one theft charge Thursday morning and more theft charges are expected. Ramirez also faces drug and evading arrest charges.

Police are reminding people to lock their cars, take their items with them or hid them from the site of thieves.
