Alkek Elementary students evacuated due to smoke in the air

Students were evacuated from Alkek Elementary in Bandera ISD after smoke was seen in the air Tuesday morning.

Fire crews are responding to the call for smoke. The students were evacuated as a precaution.

Fire officials said there was a fire in the ceiling of an unused portable building.

Officials said the students in grades pre-k-2 were taken to the Bandera Middle School cafeteria. Students in grades 3-5 are expected to be taken to Bandera Middle School at 10:00 a.m.

The students will have lunch at the middle school and are expected to be returned to campus at the end of the day for the regular pickup procedures.

Parents were given the option to pick up their students at Bandera Middle School before the end of the day by reporting to the office to sign their child out.

No injuries have been reported.
