Alamo Street Eats Bar closing, owners focusing on 'new project'

Alamo Street Eats Bar will be closing its doors for good this month.

Jody Bailey Newman, co-owner of what she calls the "first Urban Food Court" in downtown San Antonio, posted the news to Alamo Street Eat Bar's Facebook page. Its final day of business will be January 15.

The location first opened in 2012 and became a hot spot for local food trucks. Newman noted the success that businesses have achieved after getting their start at Alamo Street Eat Bar.

"Food truck operators have succeeded, supported their families, put themselves through school and gone on to open notable Restaurants here in SATX," she says.

The post also hints at what's next for Newman and her husband and co-owner. "Steve and I are switching our focus to a new project," Newman writes.

The Newmans also own The Friendly Spot, and speculation has been swirling about a second location for the popular Southtown bar.

Fans lamented the closing of Alamo Street Eat Bar on Facebook, but the bar won't end with a whimper.

"These next two weeks, DJ’s, #friendlyfamily & former food trucks will be swinging in to celebrate," Newman explains.
