Affordable daycare for children with disabilities

Low-cost daycare for special needs kids

SAN ANTONIO -- From the outside it looks like a plain building, but Respite Care of San Antonio Daycare is an extraordinary place for little ones.

"It's comforting, it’s warming to know that there are people able to manage his care,” said Patricia Matthews.

She's talking about her 7-year-old, Levi who has Down syndrome and a cardiac disease. Matthews began bringing Levi to Respite Daycare when he was a baby.

"We provide services Monday through Friday 7:30 A.M. to 6:30 P.M. But here we have an RN,” said Chief of Operations Cara Magrane.

“If I took him to a different daycare, they would probably panic. But having a nurse here at daycare allowed me to function in my professional life and to know that my kid is well taken care of," Matthews said.

Services are specifically for families with disabled children, siblings are also welcomed.

"So we can create an inclusive environment and keep that family stress level down,” Magrane said.

They also provide child care on weekends.

"On Friday nights we also have Parents’ Night Out,” said Magrane. “Often relationships with children with special needs are divorces, so we want to help strengthen that."

Matthews said it’s not just daycare, but a second home for kids.

The cost varies based on family size, but one child can cost anywhere from $30.00 to $50.00. To sign up visit their website www.respitecaresa.org.
