Cyber Monday marks the Super Bowl of online shopping as thousands around the world check deals into their cart.
Last year, Amazon shoppers bought more than 64,000,000 items worldwide on Cyber Monday, about 740 orders per minute, according to the company.
It's that one-day spike in sales and increases throughout the holiday season that requires robots and extra hands to pack and stack thousands of orders swiftly and quickly.
"Normally we have over 2,500 employees," Amazon spokesperson Michelle Taylerson said. "During the holidays we hire hundreds and hundreds more."
The online giant carries big brand items and helps shoppers discover small businesses including Bright Beam Goods from Austin. They make a variety of products and some of the most popular are Mistaken Lyrics Coasters.
"Amazon handmade has been a great platform for us because we're able to reach a wide audience basically all of the Amazon customers," Eve Trester-Wilson of Bright Beam Goods said.
Cyber Monday marks one of the busiest days for holiday shopping, so a speedy and reliable delivery is crucial.
This year Amazon launched Amazon Key in 37 cities. It allows carriers to drop off packages inside a home and help prevent the possibility of package theft.
