SAN ANTONIO – Labor Day is traditionally seen as the last family holiday of the summer, a time for get-togethers, family fun a grilling out; but not this year.
Due to the extreme fire danger across the state, many parks and lakes have limited or restricted outdoor burning and grilling.
At Calaveras and Braunig Lake, black plastic bags cover every outdoor grill, sending a message to campers and visitors that grilling is not an option this year.
For families visiting the lakes on the last day of the holiday weekend, the closing of the grills was seen as a needed decision.
Sunday, Canyon Park at Canyon Lake caught on fire after a grill sparked a small wildfire that quickly spread across the campground.
The dry grass and brisk winds provided the ideal situation for the fire to consume the campground, with conditions unchanged fire officials weren’t taking any chances.
