Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Democrat Bill White disagree on many things -- but one thing they can agree on is the need for border security.
Both men traveled to the border Thursday to talk about ways to make things safer there.
White says the governor has failed to protect the border and says he would be more aggressive in pursuing federal grants.
Perry says it's not his fault the border isn't secure. He blames it on Washington.
"Four years ago, Rick Perry said we shouldn't wait for D.C.," White said. "Well, he not only has failed to obtain the federal resources, but now he's blaming it on D.C. We need a governor who will act."
Perry countered that White's "campaign is very high on criticisms and very light on any new ideas."
White says he has a plan that could add between $75 million and $90 million to the cash-strapped state budget.
But he says public safety should be the state's No. 1 priority.
