SAN ANTONIO -- Diana Barrera is a former Army specialist. Last year, she became homeless.

"I was sleeping in my car and a I felt so lost," Barrera said. "I never thought it would happen to me."

At the time, her skill set was limited, and she was desperately searching for a way to get back on her feet

Today, things are very different for the mother of two. She lives at a northwest-side apartment complex and works in home health care.

Barrera was able to get back on her feet after visiting the G.I. Forum through Texas Workforce. It was there that she learned about The Alamo Area Mutual Housing Association.

AAMHA is getting ready to host an event called One Night of Hope. In November, city leaders will be sleeping in their cars to raise awareness about what homeless veterans go through everyday.
