Children with the Boys and Girls Club of San Antonio are ready for their first day of school after some helping hands filled their wish list. Employees with Valero dug deep into their own pockets and filled school supply checklists for hundreds of kids in our community to make their first day of school a happy one.
Valero employees packed over 200 school book bags for children with all the supplies they need to get them started. Kids had big smiles as they opened the backpacks filled with pens, paper, crayons and glue sticks.
Valero also donated a second truck to the San Antonio Food Bank, making it easier for volunteers to pick up and deliver supplies to the needy.
"It's really gonna make a big difference because it comes at a great time it will help us collect that much more food," says Eric Cooper, CEO with the San Antonio Food Bank. "When you have companies like Valero that step up it gives you hope That you are going to be able to meet the need and put food on the table for those that struggle."
Employees at Valero donate their time and money year round to a handful of nonprofit organizations throughout the community.
Valero CEO, Bill Klesse, says, "Our employees were very, very generous. We had the Food Bank where I am sure we will raise over ten thousand pounds of food and that helps sustain our community."
