A natural gas leak is now under control on the city's east side. Construction crews were digging in a parking lot in the 4400 block of Tejasco Thursday morning when the blade of a front end loader gashed a four-inch supply line.
The surrounding buildings were evacuated while the fire department swept the area.
Officials said the wind was on their side, helping to quickly dissipate leaking gas.
"It's always a concern that a natural gas leak is going to find an ignition source. So you always have to worry about that," said Chief John Lowry with the San Antonio Fire Department. "But I don't think anybody was ever in danger here today. It was all precautionary."
The evacuation was lifted as soon as the all-clear was given. CPS is handling the repairs to the busted line.
