In the middle of the storms, a smokey fire in Leon Valley has left a family's home gutted.

No one was home when flames broke out at the house in the 6700 block of Forest Haven just after 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Fire crews from San Antonio showed up first. Then firefighters from Leon Valley, Helotes and Balcones Heights arrived to assist.

Neighbors made sure no one was trapped inside.

"We had two people standing outside. They said that they had knocked on the door and no one answered. We forced entry. There is a car in the driveway," said SAFD's Capt. David Tundel. "We didn't find anybody inside and nobody was injured."

The fire was out in about an hour. The cause of the fire and the estimated cost of the damage is still unknown.
