SAN ANTONIO -- There are no more excuses for losing homework at Cole High School. Clouds are now part of their students' homework.

Fort Sam Houston ISD was given a grant of more than $2 million by the Defense Department.

Cole High School students were given their own Google Chrome Notebooks.

Cloud computing lets students put all their work on a remote server giving them access any time from any computer.  Students can also access their class assignments at any time and do their homework together while they are at their own homes.

"By doing it on the cloud, students always have their work.  As long as they have their netbooks or they can log into a computer that has the Google docs operating system,” says Max Gorham, a Cole history teacher.

If a student's hard drive were to crash or something happened to the notebook they would still have their work saved on the cloud and can access it from another computer.

Gorham says, "I don’t have a million pieces of paper that students are always turning into me. My class is almost paperless at this point."

Cole High School was given a grant to give more than 400 students their own Google Chrome Notebooks which they say can power up in seven seconds.

With future grant money, Fort Sam Houston ISD is planning to expand their program to the middle school, giving those students access to iPads.
