The Texas Attorney General's Office launched its fugitive and cyber crimes unit in 2003. And since then, it has made 2,000 arrests.
Arrest No. 2,000 happened last week in Austin.
41-year-old Kirk Brandon Miller was arrested for having unauthorized contact with a child.
"There's a large number of predators out there (and) a large number of parole violators out there," state Attorney General Greg Abbott said. "We just need to have a comprehensive manpower approach to tackling the problem."
"What we're dealing with now is some of the worst of the worst," said Aaron Crowell of the Baytown Police Department. "Those who prey on children are some of the worst criminals that we're going to see."
The fugitive unit focuses on parole violators with a history of sex crimes against children.
The cyber crimes unit targets online predators by assuming the identities of young teens in Internet chat rooms.
