San Antonio makes Forbes' list of best places for business

San Antonio and four other Texas cities have been sited as great places for business by Forbes Magazine.

The list of Top 25 Places for Business made their judgment based on 12 criteria:

  • projected job growth
  • past job growth
  • cost of living
  • cost of business
  • income growth over the past 5 years
  • educational attainment
  • projected economic growth through 2014
  • crime rates
  • cultural resources
  • recreational opportunities
  • net migration patterns
  • number of highly-rated colleges


Provo, Utah topped the list. But San Antonio came in at number 13 on the list. Dallas placed at number 8, Austin at number 9, Fort Worth at 15, and Houston came in at number 20. Forbes said that overall, cities in America's heartland fair better for business ventures, whereas east and west coast states faced with high costs and heavy regulation are less favorable situated.

This is the fourteenth time Forbes has come up with these rankings.
