An ambulance was stolen from outside a San Antonio home during a medical call overnight, San Antonio police said.
Investigators said the keys were left in the ignition outside the house in the 1100 block of Sharmain Place at about 2 a.m. Monday, and the thief apparently jumped into the ambulance and took off for a short joy ride.
Police found the ambulance abandoned a mile away on West Hutchins Street. Witnesses reported seeing a man running away from the ambulance.
The thief rummaged through items inside the ambulance but did not appear to have stolen anything.
Police and Blue Eagle scoured the area but were unable to find the thief.
Invesitgators could not give details about the medical call but said another ambulance was not needed for the call.
Police were working with witnesses to get a description of the suspect.
