SAN ANTONIO -- A 67-year-old man was stabbed at least seven times after coming to the defense of a woman late Saturday night, police say.

The victim's name was not immediately available. He was taken to University Hospital in serious condition.

San Antonio police said the victim heard a couple fighting in an upstairs apartment in the 100 block of Babcock. He tried to break up the fight, but the couple continued fighting after he went back downstairs.

The suspect also went downstairs, police said, and stabbed the victim at least seven times outside the apartment building around 11:30 p.m.

Officers responded to the apartment building and tracked down the suspect at Pleasanton and Fredericksburg Road.

Police said the suspect was carrying several knives. They used a Taser on him and took him into custody.
