Police are investigating a large fight that turned into a police chase early Wednesday.

The brawl broke out between a group of people at a Valero station in the 1300 block of Callaghan Road on the city's west side.

An officer spotted the fight and stopped to break it up. It was reported that the fight involved mainly women, but when police arrived several fled, at least four women remained at the scene.

Two vehicles then tried to flee. According to the police report, when one of the officers approached a Ford Explorer attempting to get the driver to stop, the driver tried to back into the officer. The officer avoided being hit, but received a blow to his wrist.

Police say the officer again yelled at the driver to stop, but the driver put his Explorer in gear, driving forward. The officer's flashlight smashed through the driver's window as he passed, and a chase ensued.

That chase came to an end in the 5300 block of Ingram Road.

Three women are now facing charges of evading arrest, while the male driver is looking at possible charges of assault against a public servant for nearly running an officer over.
