A San Antonio man remains behind bars after his elderly father called police and turned him in for allegedly stealing spools of copper.
Kenneth Shelton, 52, was charged with evading arrest early Thursday morning after running from SAPD officers and hiding in a lot behind his home in the 700 block of West Gerald.
"I told him I can't take it anymore. I called them and they came out right away," said Louis Shelton.
Louis says he told his son he was going to call the police if he did not stop stripping the plastic sheathing off of copper.
Kenneth could also face theft charges for the spool of copper recovered by police.
Authorities believe the copper may have been taken from a local rail yard.
Elsewhere, two stainless steel sculptures were stolen from a front yard in the 300 block of Skyview on the city's northwest side.
"Pretty devastating, pretty devastating to have that stuff stolen. I can't replace it," said John Whear, whose house has been vacant since it burned down July 7.
Whear welded the sculptures using scrap metal and says one of the stolen pieces of art was bolted to a concrete block weighing hundreds of pounds.
He says it would take two or three people to move the block of concrete alone.
In paperwork filed with SAPD, Whear listed the sculptures as having a total price of $15,000, but he says the art work is priceless.
