Police say a Clark High School student was robbed Tuesday morning while walking to school. 20-year old Johnny Villarreal allegedly pulled out a handgun and demanded money and the teenager's violin.
The student didn't have any cash, but he did hand over his instrument, valued at several thousand dollars. Police say the suspect went to a nearby Burger King and asked employees there if they could watch the violin for him.
A short time later, investigators say Villarreal went back for the violin. Around 12:30 that afternoon, the suspect's maroon sedan stopped running on the I-35 access road and caught fire.
Firefighters saw the stolen violin in the back seat and immediately contacted SAPD.
Villarreal was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, unlawful carrying of a handgun and drug possession.
