Three victims of a west-side Mexican restaurant robbery decided to rumble with two armed suspects Friday morning and won.
San Antonio police said the men's' brave counter-attack ended with two bloodied robbers. One of the suspects was captured. The other remains on the run.
Police said the robbers came into the Taqueria Jalisco #6 in the 1100 block of Bandera Road at around 11:30 p.m. posing as customers.
The suspects eventually pulled a gun on three restaurant employees before they tried to close the business, investigators said. The robbers reportedly held the men hostage for two hours. They forced the men to cook and serve them beer.
But the employees had a plan of their own. Police said they threw a chair at the robbers' gun. Then, the workers came at their captors, fighting for their freedom. Investigators said the workers stabbed the suspects, who ran out of the restaurant around 1:30 a.m.
Police said the suspects' get-away vehicle crashed near Woodlawn Lake. A park policemen found one of the bloodied suspects. He held him until SAPD arrived.
The suspect was linked to the robbery, police said. He was taken to University Hospital with stab wounds to the shoulder and lower arm. He will face criminal charges, investigators said.
The second suspect eluded authorities. It's believed he may have been stabbed in the stomach.
The employees were not injured. Police did not expect the workers to face criminal charges.
