This year thousands of cyclists will take off and pedal their way to Austin to raise money and awareness for diabetes. One rider at a time.
They are riding on behalf of the millions of Americans with diabetes and their families and friends. In San Antonio, diabetes has over a 12.5 percent prevalence rate. That's double the the national average.
The funds raised by Tour de Cure help make a difference by supporting the American Diabetes Association's important research, information and advocacy efforts and its mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
If you would like to participate there is still time to join a team. Every year, I support Team Pearson. This year their team is called the Pearson Pedal Power and is determined to raise more money than ever!
Remember, you don't have to ride a bike to show you care. You can show support for a team by volunteering or by making a donation.
"Our efforts will help set the pace in the fight against diabetes," writes Darren Heguy, who is the captain of Peasron Pedal Power. "So let's get in gear and ride to beat diabetes!"
"Each mile I ride, and the funds I raise will be used in the fight to prevent and cure diabetes," writes Heguy. "And to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes."
