The summer is here, and police warn burglars are on the move from one car to the next. Recently Alamo Heights police reported a rash of car break-ins, and now, just around the corner, Olmos Park is experiencing some of the same problems.
According to Olmos Park police, vehicle break-ins for the month of June are higher than the last five months combined. The city reported no burglaries in April, and only one in May. However, that all changed in June.
Police say the city saw a spike of 11 burglaries over a three-week period.
They were surprised by the high numbers, but believe the summer has a lot to do with it.
What's hot among thieves this season? Police say they seem to be drawn to electronics.
Police are asking everyone to remain vigilant. They say, as always, remember to lock your car doors. But there is another thing you can do to make recovering stolen items a bit easier. Police say log all the serial numbers for electronics you own.
If the items are stolen, they can try to track it down by those numbers.
According to Olmos Park police, they have made three arrests in connection with the recent burglaries.
If you see something suspicious, Olmos Park police say it is best to let them know immediately. Their number is 210-824-3281.
