SAN ANTONIO -- Authorities have identified the occupants aboard a San Antonio Independent School District bus that plunged off an overpass in downtown San Antonio on Thursday.
San Antonio police identified the driver as Elisha Owens, 73; the school aide as Vilma Pena, 46; and the student as Louis Zamaipa, 7.
All three miraculously suffered only non-life threatening injuries.
According to records obtained by the KENS 5 I-Team, Owens has been working for the San Antonio ISD for 16 years and has had a clean driving record since at least 2007. The district did not keep electronic records before 2007.
Owens allegedly lost control of the bus after colliding with another vehicle on I-37 north around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. The bus crashed through the barrier and landed on the access road below -- about half a mile north of the Alamodome.
Leslie Price, spokeswoman for the San Antonio ISD, said she can now only confirm that the driver was wearing a seatbelt. She had previously told KENS 5 that all three occupants were wearing seatbelts.
