SAN ANTONIO -- Nurses at downtown CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital are covering their young patients with a lot more than just excellent care.

They’re covering them with handmade blankets.

The new program called Rays of Warmth.

The goal was to make and give away about 40 blankets to pediatric patients undergoing radiology scans. But workers ended up with 120 blankets.

“Every time we have procedures done in our department, we have noticed that our kids are always cold,” said radiology nurse Anna Esquivel. “Everybody’s always cold and freezing. So we said, ‘okay, what would make them warm?’ So, blankets.”

Church groups, schools, and doctors all donate money and materials. Employees volunteer their time to make blankets.
