The San Antonio Police Department said they were able to make an arrest in the murder of a northside man thanks to alleged confession and a murder weapon. Cody James Carmichael has been charged with the Feb. 21 murder of Troy Clattenburg.
According to an arrest warrant, Carmichael and a mutual acquaintance of the murder victim went to Clattenburg's apartment in the 1400 block of W. Bitters Rd. the night of the murder to socialize. But police said the two left after the 24-year-old made unwanted sexual advances towards Carmichael. The murder suspect was reportedly angry.
In fact, investigators said the 21-year-old dropped their mutual friend off and returned to Clattenburg's apartment. The warrant said he shot the man in the head with a .380 from the front door and left. The victim's mother allegedly heard the gunfire but did not discover her son until it was too late, police reports said.
Investigators said Carmichael told the mutual friend about the killing and even gave him the murder weapon. The warrant said on March 3 that person revealed the gruesome details to SAPD. They said he even help them recover the gun that reportedly killed Clattenburg. The warrant said the victim's cellphone show his last phone calls were to and from this mutual acquaintance.
Carmichael allegedly confessed the murder to police on Monday. He's being held in the Bexar County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond on a charge of murder.
