Some northwest residents have a warning for people after they claim their neighborhood has become a hot spot for thieves.

Despite her son actually asleep inside their home in the 11000 block of Spring Trail, Janet Dirmeyer said that didn’t stop someone from breaking in early Monday morning.

“They came in through the gate and they opened the burglar bars and they actually pried open the sliding glass door,” said Dirmeyer.

The alleged thieves stole a laptop and cell phone. However, what can’t be replaced is Dirmeyer’s jewelry box with some of her very last memories of her husband who died 5 years ago.

“It’s only going to represent what $80 worth of gold for someone who stole it, for me it represents 35 years of marriage,” said Dirmeyer.

Since the burglary Dirmeyer has sketched the stolen jewelry to show pawn shops. She also bought several motion sensor lights to deter future thieves. Something others on her street might be doing as well.

“I had a neighbor while the police were here stop and say, ‘Did you just get robbed?’ I said yes, and he explained he had been robbed several times in just the year or so,” said Dirmeyer.

While Dirmeyer and others are seeking justice, the widow would just be happy to get her wedding ring back.

“I don't think words can describe it. For me it was pretty much all I had left of him,” said Dirmeyer.
