SAN ANTONIO - Back to school for some students in the SAISD came with an Olympic theme. It's a way the principal hopes to encourage students to excel this year.
Early Monday morning as parents dropped off their kids at Bonham Academy the teachers and principal were ready to greet them with a gold medal.
"We wanted to get our students motivated to start the first day," said Principal Patricia Ortiz.
Principal Ortiz's teachers came up with the Olympic theme to encourage students all year by making them feel like winners.
"School of champions Bonham Academy, welcome back," Ortiz said as she handed out the medals.
Some parents walked their children hand-in-hand to school. Some students were excited with smiles others were a bit scared and teared up.
But with an encouraging welcome-back cheer Principal Ortiz hopes all students at Bonham Academy strive for a successful year.
"We have high expectations for them for the school year," she said. "We're just very excited about the school year and we wanted to share that with the children."
