A 46-year old man is in critical condition after crashing his car on I-10 at Ralph Fair Road.

Bexar County Sheriff's deputies said the accident happened around 2:30 a.m. Thursday as the man was travelling eastbound on I-10.

Investigators said the man was speeding and lost control of his car as he was exiting the highway.

He went over a culvert and landed in the grassy median between the highway and the access road. The SUV then burst into flames.

The man was trapped in the car for a few minutes before emergency responders were able to pull him out.

He was taken to University Hospital in critical condition and then was transferred to San Antonio Military Medical Center.

Entrance and exit ramps to I-10 were closed briefly while crews cleared the scene.
