Marion-- Carson Harned is a decorated Vietnam Veteran, he doesn't scare easy. But on June 29th he thought it was all over when a swarm of bees covered his entire head.

Harned was using a riding lawnmower along Santa Clara Road near F.M. 78 when he said the bees attacked. He was stung more than 400 times.

The 61-year-old struggled to get to F.M. 78 where he tried to wave down passing motorists. The first few cars refused to stop. Then a woman who recognized what was happening drove to the nearest store for a can of bee repellent. She returned to give Harned some relief.

The Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office said another person was attacked last week along the same stretch of road.

A San Antonio pest control expert said they're seeing behavior in bees now that's more typical of August. They said in this extreme heat bees are working harder to cool their hives, leaving the ones on the outside more defensive and ready to attack.
