A southwest-side baseball field is undergoing major renovation.
The field at Golden Community Park on Somerset Road is the latest project of Lowe's Heroes.
More than 70 volunteers from seven area Lowe's stores are constructing new dugouts, a shaded seating area and new landscaping at the park's entrance.
Once it is completed the field will be used by the SAPD Athletic League to encourage positive interaction between officers and local teenagers and kids from the area.
"We partnered with the San Antonio Police Department and also with the Parks and Rec. what their intent was to do a baseball team for the kids to kind of prevent crime in this area and just build a better community," said Misty Wells with Lowe's.
Volunteers will be back at the park tomorrow to finish the renovations.
