A 43-year-old local man is on trial, accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend. Dana Clair Edwards was found dead on New Year's Day 2009.
Defendant Jon Thomas Ford maintains he is innocent and claims he was at his home the night his ex-girlfriend turned up dead.
After a delay Tuesday afternoon caused after a juror fell and fractured her hip, the victim's mother, Deborah Edwards, took the witness stand.
"We both had gotten in bed, and we looked at each other and said, 'Something's wrong,'" Deborah Edwards testified.
She described Dana as a loving daughter who moved back to San Antonio to help care for her father who was battling cancer.
Tuesday she described to jurors how she went to her daughter's home when she couldn't reach her by phone.
Jon Thomas Ford has been out on bond for a few years. If convicted, he could face 5 to 99 years in prison.
