A local man accused of running down a teen who was walking down a sidewalk has pleaded guilty to the crime, authorities say.
Investigators said 42-year-old John G. Ramirez was traveling east in the 3100 block of Culebra Road on May 6 when he drove up onto the curb, hitting 17-year-old Nathan Chavez. Ramirez reportedly fled the scene.
Chavez was taken to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:09 a.m. that day.
Ramirez had served six months probation for a previous DWI conviction in August 2006.
On Friday he pled guilty to intoxication manslaughter charges and was sentenced to 15 years in prison by the 187th District Court.
