SAN ANTONIO -- A local group is calling for a boycott of all Pioneer Flour products in support of workers who have been striking for more a year and a half.
Mill workers with Teamsters Local 657 are demanding higher wages to offset higher insurance costs. They said they were offered a small salary increase, but not enough to cover the increased insurance costs passed down to employees.
Officials at C.H. Guenther & Sons, Inc. said they have offered the strikers a fair deal, but it was rejected.
Now the Cesar E. Chavez Legacy and Educational Foundation is calling for a boycott of Pioneer products. The group is also organizing a Friday march.
A spokesman for Guenther & Sons said their stance has not changed.
