Bexar County Sheriff's deputies are trying to figure out how an inmate wearing leg shackles managed to escape from jail on Wednesday.
Officials say Francisco Tristan, 33, was accounted for at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday in the jail booking area. Then after a 2:30 shift change, the guards performed a prisoner headcount and discovered that Tristan was missing.
A two-hour manhunt led deputies to a house three miles from the jail, where they found the escaped inmate. Tristan led them on a short foot chase and was then taken back into custody.
Tristan initially was arrested on Tuesday. He was charged with robbery and attempting to steal an officer's handgun.
