More than 1,200 people representing dozens of Hispanic Baptist churches came together over the weekend to celebrate a centennial milestone.

The group met at Trinity Baptist Church, where Gov. Rick Perry's office presented a proclamation.

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro spoke at the event.

Leaders of the convention say this meeting celebrated a historic moment in history. San Antonio is where the Hispanic Baptist Convention was founded in 1910.

"We're so happy to be in San Antonio," said Frank Palo of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. "It's a unique city and beautiful city. In fact, demograhics tell us San Antonio will be Texas in the near future -- a multi-cultural, bilingual city. We couldn't be happier to be here today."

Hispanic Baptist leaders also expressed their concern over Arizona's immigration law at Sunday's event.
