BANDERA COUNTY, TEXAS -- It has caught the eye of many driving along rural FM 2828.
The Bandera County Sheriff’s Office said it has been flooded with calls about a body hanging from a tree along the highway.
John Bollinger said his brother thought it was real.
“He came rushing up and said, ‘grab a knife, we got to go cut this guy out of a tree’,” said Bollinger. “He thought a guy was in the process of hanging himself.”
However, what has caused so much commotion in this hill country community is nothing more than Styrofoam and chicken wire.
“This is our business to scare you,” said Peggy Richards.
Richards and her husband hung the prop from a tree near their ranch to promote their Halloween attraction.
The couple have spent the past two years turning their ranch into what they said will be the first haunted hay-ride in Texas.
“We really didn't expect this at all,” said Richards. “For us it doesn't really look realistic."
But for many, it does.
Plus, Bollinger said just because it’s not real, doesn’t make it okay.
"I'm a business man and all for advertising and getting attention,” said Bollinger. “I just think they are not going about it the right way."
Richards said she has no plans on taking the hanging body down, but said she will eventually be putting up a haunted hay-ride sign next to it.
