Calling it both a traumatic event and a unfortunate occurrence, Cuero police arrested two local teens in connection with the destruction of some of the city's holiday lighting displays.

17-year-old Scott Rogers and 17-year-old Shane Torres were identified by police after a tip from a caller.

Police say while interviewing the pair Tuesday night, the teens confessed to destroying the Christmas displays at the city park. The teens, who are both first time offenders, were arrested and booked into the DeWitt County Jail on $150,000 bond each.

Police say the teens are remorseful for what they did and may have not known the consequences for their actions

According to the father of one of the boys, the teens are both in special education programs. The boy's father says he knows what his son did was wrong. However, he says that a bail of $150,000 for a first time, non-violent offender is unfair.

The bond for the boys was set by DeWitt County Justice of the Peace, Judge Peggy Mayer.

The teens face second-degree felony charges of criminal mischief. The penalty, if convicted is between 2 and 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine and a possible restitution payment.

Cuero police say they will increase patrols at the park and work to get more lighting at the park as a result of the incident.
