SAN ANTONIO -- Police say a worried family was searching for a 27-year-old woman when they found her body along the highway early Friday morning on the city's south side.

San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar said the woman was killed in an apparent hit-and-run sometime overnight.

Family members identified the woman as Hortencia Esquivel.

The victim's sister said they reported Esquivel missing on Thursday night after she got into a disagreement with someone at a nearby restaurant and never returned. They became worried, and went out looking for her.

Retracing her steps, family members spotted Esquivel's body on the I-35 south access road near the Poteet-Jourdanton exit around 6 a.m. and called police, Salazar said.

Esquivel leaves behind three children.
