San Antonio drivers say they are tired of the standing in line trying to update their licenses at the Department of Public Safety offices.

Many teenagers are hoping to head back to school with a brand new license, and that's making things extra busy.

DPS troopers say the average wait time is anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half.

"I'm from out of state moving in and I've never experienced anything like this," says Bob Hausman, who is new to the San Antonio area.

DPS Trooper Jason Reyes says a new DPS mega-center was scheduled to open this summer, however the date as been pushed back.

"We are hoping by October our newest facility will be open. This is a mega-center and we are hoping it will accommodate anywhere from 800 to 850 people daily," says Reyes.

Reyes is advising folks to arrive early and says the state is working to provide cooling stations at several DPS locations.

Awnings were recently installed at the DPS office on Babcock Road, but the covers still didn't provide enough shade for the entire crowd.

DPS says they are working on additional plans for a more comfortable and shorter trip for those trying to renew their licenses.

Troopers also say that about 60 percent of the people who are standing in line at DPS could have taken care of their business online. Those options include renewing your license, address changes or ordering a duplicate license.
