San Antonio welder crushed while working under big-rig

Crews were at  the scene of an Tuesday morning fatality involving a welder working on an 18-wheeler trailer rig.

San Antonio Fire Department says the 45-year-old  welder was working under a docked, fully-loaded 18-wheeler trailer at the International Paper company's container plant in the 1100 block of AT&T Center Pkwy. at around 9:30 a.m. when one of two jacks collapsed, crushing the man under the big rig.

According to the police report, several other men managed to escape and tried to save Martin Medellin by using a forklift to raise the trailer.

Medellin was confirmed dead at the scene.
