SAN ANTONIO -- A 52-year-old man is in stable condition one day after he was brutally attacked and stabbed while walking to his car at a busy shopping center.
Authorities said the victim is a New York jeweler who had been doing business on Wednesday afternoon at C. Aaron Penaloza Jewelers, in the 900 block of East Basse Road.
Afterward, police said he went to eat at one of the nearby restaurants. He was attacked by two men while walking back out to his car around 1 p.m.
Workers at a nearby business are shocked.
"We don't have this kind of stuff, especially in the daylight," said Stacy Llamas, who works at the UPS Store.
Blood covered the victim's car after the attack. He was stabbed in his arms and legs as he tried to defend himself. Police said the suspects also had a gun.
The suspects got away with the victim's laptop and his backpack, but no jewelry.
Police found the suspects' stolen getaway car about a block away in the parking lot at the Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. Police said it's possible the suspects then jumped into another stolen vehicle.
The two suspects were described as 5-foot-3-inches, weighing around 150 pounds. Both are believed to be in the 20s.
