COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Police say the gunman has died after a shooting that killed a law enforcement officer and another civilian near the Texas A&M University campus.

Bryan Police Department spokesman Jon Agnew says two other law enforcement officers and another woman also were injured in the Monday shooting in College Station. Bryan police are assisting in the investigation.

Assistant College Station Police Chief Scott McCollum earlier identified the officer killed as Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann. He was 41.

Investigators said he was the first to arrive on the scene where the suspect fired shots from his house south of Kyle Field, but a motive is still being determined.

The other officer was shot in the leg. McCollum said his condition appears to be stable.

An employee with Brazos County told KENS 5's sister station WFAA.com that the shooting occurred as an eviction notice was being served.

The school's emergency website issued a "Code Maroon" alert around 12:29 p.m., telling students and staff to avoid the area near the 200 block of Fidelity Drive, just east of campus. About 15 minutes later, school officials said College Station police took the shooter into custody.
