Bexar County investigators say the black market makes big bucks off counterfeit merchandise, and now they're dealing with a growing prescription pill problem.
It includes counterfeit drugs.
Authorities say these drugs are some of the most widely used in America.
"We've seen every drug simulated," said Lt. Darrell Sanders.
Sanders specializes in illegal narcotic investigations for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.
He says what consumers don't realize is that these fake or counterfeit drugs may be even more dangerous than the real thing.
"It could be very harmful. It could kill them, potentially," Sanders said. Many cases become federal ones. ICE agents throughout the U.S. are currently searching for 34-year-old Bo Jiang. They say Jiang headed up an illegal counterfeit drug ring that was behind the selling and distribution of millions of illegal pills, including Viagra and Lipitor. They say the transactions were mostly made over the internet -making them hard to trace and even more risky. As a result, within recent months several investigators with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office have received special training about counterfeit drugs and will continue to be on the lookout for the illegal narcotics.
