Schertz resident Gregory Mitchell has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the death of 29-year-old Ryan Bettcher.
Bettcher was hit by Mitchell's SUV the night of May 7, 2011 while he was walking along Airline Blvd. in Universal City.
On Thursday the jury took about an hour to convict Mitchell of intoxication manslaughter.
But during the punishment phase of the trial, Mitchell's lawyer Cornelius Cox asked the jury for leniency.
Mitchell had no previous criminal record and Bettcher had methamphetamine in his body at the time of his death.
Bettcher's father also testified that his son had a "white power" tattoo and a tattoo of a swastika on his body.
Mitchell was led away in handcuffs as supporters yelled out, "We love you."
Moments after the verdict was read, supporters of Mitchell screamed for Bexar Co. Sheriff's deputies to step in as Mitchell's wife appeared to swallow a handful of prescription medication in the hallway outside Judge Philip Kazen's courtroom.
Deputies searched through the woman's purse and she was eventually transported by EMS to a local hospital.
Her condition has not been released.
