SAN ANTONIO -- It's one of the busiest weeks for those getting ready to start class at Texas schools.

The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District says every morning they are greeted with a line of patients that goes all the way down the block at their downtown location.

Texas law requires all public school students to have up-to-date immunizations before the first day of school.

Things have been especially busy with new legislation that took effect this year, which also requires college students to get a ,eningitis vaccination before class begins.

The vaccination costs around $160.00. To help ease the financial burden, Metro Health is announcing a partnership with Café College.

The two organizations are offering meningitis vaccinations to all uninsured college-bound students who are enrolled in the Café College program.

It's all part of a joint effort to help uninsured students get back to school in time for the fall semester.

Bacterial meningitis is a serious infection of the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord.  Among the most common people getting this disease are those between 16 years old and 21 years old.
